Orthodontic archwires are elements that refer to the wires that join the brackets, or dental appliances that are placed on the teeth, in order to progressively correct their alignment.
Arch wires fit into the slots in the brackets and are responsible for actually moving your teeth. Without an arch wire, you’d be wearing the brackets of braces, but they wouldn’t help move or straighten your teeth.
It is called arch wire because your top teeth make up your top arch and your bottom teeth make up your lower arch. Arch wires come in many different sizes.
